Snow Removal Cost in Oshawa, Whitby & Ajax (2026–27)

Snow removal prices vary a lot from one quote to the next, and most of that gap isn’t about one company being greedy and another being cheap. It’s about what the quote actually covers. Here’s what moves the price for a house in Oshawa, Whitby or Ajax, and what to ask so you’re comparing like with like.

What actually sets the price

The size and layout of the driveway. More square footage means more time with the blower, and a long driveway, a wide double driveway or a corner lot with extra frontage all add up. A flat, simple driveway is faster than one with tight turns and parked-in vehicles.

What else needs clearing. A driveway alone is the baseline. Walkways to the front door, the steps and any side-door path all take shovel work that a blower can’t do, and that’s labour.

The ridge at the end of the driveway. After the city plow goes by, it leaves a heavy, packed pile across the bottom of your driveway. It’s often the hardest snow of the whole storm to move, and in Oshawa clearing it is officially the homeowner’s job (more on that in our post on sidewalk and windrow rules). Some quotes include it every visit; some don’t, or charge extra.

Salt. Salting is a separate task with its own materials cost. Some plans include it every visit, some only on certain days, some not at all.

How you pay: season or visit. A seasonal plan is one flat price for the winter. Per-visit billing charges you each time. Neither is automatically cheaper — it depends on how much snow falls.

Seasonal plan vs. per-visit

With per-visit billing you pay for what you use, which is appealing in a mild winter and painful in a heavy one, and the bills arrive unpredictably. With a seasonal plan the price is set before the first snowfall, which makes it easy to budget. We do offer pay-per-visit, but it comes with no contract discount and no guaranteed availability — season customers are serviced first.

What Maple’s plans cost for 2026–27

These prices are for a standard single or double driveway, plus HST. Larger properties are quoted by measured square footage.

  • Snow only — from $860. Driveway, walkway and steps cleared, and the ridge at the end of your driveway cleared every time. You handle your own salting.
  • Snow + salt — from $1,030. Everything above, with salt applied every time we clear.
  • Full service — from $1,380. Everything above, plus salting on light-dusting days and freezing rain, even when there’s no snow to clear.

You can pay the season up front or in five equal monthly payments, November to March. If you sign up mid-season, the price is prorated. A visit is triggered at 3 cm of snow, and we clear once the storm has ended (twice on a long, heavy storm). We use two-stage snow blowers and shovels — no plow trucks — so your lawn and driveway edges stay intact. The season price is covered up to 156 cm of snowfall, which is only exceeded in roughly one winter in nine.

Why one quote can be much cheaper than another

When two quotes are far apart, check these before assuming one is a bargain:

  1. Does it include the walkway and steps, or just the driveway?
  2. Is the end-of-driveway ridge included every time?
  3. Is salt included, and how often?
  4. What snowfall triggers a visit, and when does the crew come — during the storm, or after it?
  5. Is it a flat season price or billed per visit?

Frequently Asked

How much does snow removal cost for a regular driveway in Durham Region?

For a standard single or double driveway, Maple’s 2026–27 seasonal plans run from $860 + HST for snow clearing only, to $1,030 + HST with salt, to $1,380 + HST for full service. Larger properties are quoted by measured square footage.

Is a seasonal plan cheaper than paying per visit?

It depends on the winter. Per-visit billing can cost less in a light winter and more in a heavy one. A seasonal plan is one flat price however many times it snows, so you know the cost in November.

Does the price include the ridge the city plow leaves at the end of the driveway?

On Maple’s plans, yes — it’s cleared every visit. Not every contractor includes it, so it’s worth asking before you compare prices.
